Pain Free: A Revolutionary Method For Stopping Chronic Pain Pete Egoscue Pain Free shows readers how they can readily self-diagnose, treat and eliminate agonizing conditions such as stiff necks, sore shoulders and elbows, aching backs, hips and knees, shin splints, twisted ankles, and a variety of foot problems. Even many symptoms of arthritis can be eased, along with TMJ, severe migraine headaches, asthma attacks, and repetitive stress injuries. In this natural, head to foot guide to musculoskeletal pain, Pete Egoscue demonstrates that the body is designed to maintain and renew itself through adequate and correct motion, and then leads the reader through brief sequences of motioncises matched to each pain symptom, combatting the root cause of the pain: motion starvation. Each chapter covers a portion of the body vulnerable to chronic pain, leading the reader through the movements that ultimately solve the pain problem, without resorting to drugs, traumatic surgery or expensive physical therapy. |

The Doors Of Perception: Heaven and Hell (thINKing Classics) Aldous Huxley In 1952 Aldous Huxley became involved in the now legendary experiment to clinically detail the physiological and psycho-logical effects of the little known drug used by Mexican and Native American elders in religious practices. The drug was Peyote-now commonly know as mescalin. By the standards of the time, Huxley was a hard working, respected, and reserved intellectual from a highly intelligent, well-know, and eccentric British family. By any standards, the results of the experiment were remarkable. The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell detail the practic-alities of the experiment and give Huxley's vivid account of his im-mediate experience and the more prolonged effect upon his sub-sequent thinking and awareness. At first, the reader is drawn in by the sheer naivety and tom-foolery of the proposal but is soon caught in a finely woven net by the juxtaposition of Huxley's formidable intellect, his remarkable ability to convey the experience in such acute and truthful detail, and his incredible modesty. In 1922 Gertrude Stein famously wrote - A rose is a rose is a rose. In proving her right, Huxley also shows the deeper meaning be-hind the apparently simple verse and goes on to deliver such spec-tacular accounts of the most everyday objects that the reason for their repeated and continual renderings by all the major artists throughout history suddenly becomes quite clear. For the con-scious and willing reader - a trip to the Guggenheim, the Louvre or the Tate Modern will never be the same again. |

The Pain Chronicles: Cures, Myths, Mysteries, Prayers, Diaries, Brain Scans, Healing, and the Science of Suffering (Playaway Adult Nonfiction) Melanie Thernstrom Each of us will know physical pain in our lives, but none of us knows when it will come or how long it will stay. Today as much as 10 percent of the population of the United States suffers from chronic pain. It is more widespread, misdiagnosed, and undertreated than any major disease. While recent research has shown that pain produces pathological changes to the brain and spinal cord, many doctors and patients still labor under misguided cultural notions and outdated scientific dogmas that prevent proper treatment, to devastating effect. In The Pain Chronicles, a singular and deeply humane work, Melanie Thernstrom traces conceptions of pain throughout the ages-from ancient Babylonian pain-banishing spells to modern brain imaging-to reveal the elusive, mysterious nature of pain itself. Interweaving first-person reflections on her own battle with chronic pain, incisive reportage from leading-edge pain clinics and medical research, and insights from a wide range of disciplines-science, history, religion, philosophy, anthropology, literature, and art-Thernstrom shows that when dealing with pain we are neither as advanced as we imagine nor as helpless as we may fear. |

Ear Pain Anton Swanepoel There are a few different causes of ear pain, and the treatment for each may differ. Understanding why your ears hurt is the first step in finding the off switch to the pain and preventing it from coming on again.
This book is mostly targeted at divers and people doing other water sports activities such as water skiing, swimming, surfing and snorkeling. However, ear infections and ear barotrauma can occur due to other reasons. Regardless of how the ear damage or ear infection occurred, the treatment is still relieving the internal swelling to allow the internal pressure to lessen that will in turn lessen the pain and allow healing to occur.
The book is not a replacement to medical help if damage or pain is severe, however, the tips in the book may help to prevent ear infections and ear damage, especially when diving or doing other water sports activities, in addition to temporarily relieving the pain until you can see a doctor if severe damage has occurred. For mild infections or mild ear barotrauma, the advice may cure your pain without the need to see a doctor. Some of the topics covered are:
• Swimmer’s ear • Ear pain due to barotrauma • Surfer’s ear • Ear pain form jogging and waterskiing • Cold in the ear • Airplane ear • Ear infection • Tinnitus • Referred pain from a tooth abscess • Over 10 ways to equalize your ears.
From causes, prevention, to treatment in detail. |
